Cloud Express Methodology & Phases

Each Cloud Express deployment follows a three-phase process to prepare the environment, deploy, and measure ROI:

PHASE 1: ASSESS

Surgient assesses client and environment readiness for an on-premise private cloud deployment. This assessment covers current and planned physical infrastructure, depth of virtualization, network architecture, storage capacity, corporate security standards, personnel expertise, vendor relationships, and more.

Surgient provides high-level consulting and recommendations at this stage to prepare the client for their cloud deployment. Additionally, use cases and success criteria are developed and documented to guide the client-specific 30-day deployment process.

PHASE 2: DEPLOY

The Surgient Services team uses an enterprise-proven deployment methodology to successfully deploy private clouds on time and according to plan:

--Deployment Kickoff
The kickoff call introduces critical members of the implementation team, finalizes use cases and success criteria, and confirms the deployment schedule. Based on the details of the kickoff, the client-specific private cloud architecture is created and delivered prior to installation.

--Surgient Platform Installation
The patented Surgient Platform will be installed and configured onsite via a remote link and web conference. The Surgient team will ensure a successful, functional installation of the cloud automation software and the deployment of a generic virtual environment. The client can develop custom virtual environments for use in the cloud before, during or after the Surgient Platform installation.

--Onsite Training
A Surgient consultant will visit the client site for 3-5 days of final environment configuration, image loading, use case demonstration, and in-person training for the administrative team. At this time, the client takes full control of the functional, Surgient-enabled private cloud.

--Support Transition
Once the cloud is live and the client team is trained, the deployment phase is complete and there is a formal transfer of ownership from Surgient Services to Support.

PHASE 3: ANALYZE

Arguably the most important of the three phases in launching a private enterprise cloud is the executive review of metrics and progress against the established success criteria. Surgient has determined through years of experience that achieving and maintaining executive buy-in is critical to long-term cloud deployment success. Tracked metrics will include:

  • ROI / TCO
  • Usage trends
  • Resource consumption trends
  • Server utilization
  • Administrative overhead
  • Client-specific metrics

The Executive Review typically occurs three months after go-live and is supplemented by periodic updates throughout the deployment and initial go-live periods to ensure a high-level understanding of ongoing progress. The Executive Review provides a forum for in-depth analysis, facilitates expansion predictions, and enables a thorough understanding of total costs and returns.
