Increasingly, business critical applications run on virtualized infrastructure in the datacenter. Due to the nature of these workloads, where any lack of availability can have a significant impact on the corporate bottom line, some form of High Availability (HA) is necessary to ensure that these applications remain in service even if the underlying physical hardware suffers a failure. When combined with VMware’s vSphere platform, the Surgient Virtual Automation Platform™ can provide High Availability for even the most complex multi-tiered enterprise applications.
vCenter Server for vSphere allows administrators to establish “highly available” clusters of up to 32 host servers. When vCenter Server detects a hardware failure of one of the host servers in the cluster, it can automatically migrate the affected workloads to other host servers in the cluster. By migrating the workloads and immediately restarting the VMs, vCenter Server for vSphere can minimize the impact of hardware failures and return business critical applications to service in the shortest time possible.
Surgient extends the HA capabilities of vCenter Server for vSphere by leveraging VMotion to provide additional functionality:
Resource Pools that Federate HA Clusters
Surgient can combine multiple HA clusters within vCenter into a single resource pool. By federating HA clusters, Surgient can create a resource pool of unlimited size that simplifies management of HA functionality.
HA Support for Multi-Tier Enterprise Applications
The Surgient Virtual Automation Platform excels at managing highly complex, multi-tier enterprise applications within the datacenter. Integrated with vCenter Server for vSphere, Surgient can offer guaranteed High Availability regardless of the number of servers and networking complexity of the deployed application. Surgient not only restarts the individual VMs, but automatically maintains the complex networking between them to ensure the service remains intact.
Guaranteed Failover Capacity
Surgient’s industry-unique reservation system allows administrators to establish guaranteed failover capacity for any workload requiring High Availability. This capability allows administrators to not only ensure High Availability, but also maintain performance levels of both migrated applications and all other applications running on the pooled resources.
Active Notification When Infrastructure Changes Affect HA
The Surgient Platform will actively notify administrators of any changes to the virtual infrastructure that would adversely affect guaranteed High Availability.
Business critical applications running on virtualized environments require High Availability protection to maximize their utility to the organization. The Surgient Virtual Automation Platform extends the capabilities of vCenter Server for vSphere to provide guaranteed High Availability for multi-tier enterprise applications.
